Under the accord, Indian exporters will receive immediate zero-duty access on nearly 99% of exports by value, covering 98.08% of Oman’s tariff lines. “This balanced FTA opens doors to our exports to Oman while protecting livelihoods at home. The doors it opens are wide because Oman is a gateway to the wider GCC, East Africa and the Indian Ocean economy through its various ports,” Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said. Oman’s logistics hubs at Sohar, Duqm and Salalah would provide Indian exporters easier access to the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and East African markets. The pact assumes added significance amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Unlike most Gulf nations that depend heavily on shipping routes through the Strait of Hor muz, much of Oman’s coastline lies outside the Strait, along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Trade experts note that ma- jor ports such as Salalah and Duqm remain accessible even if traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted. “This allows Oman to continue functioning as a reliable trade and energy gateway during periods of regional conflict or instability said Ajay Srivas,” tava, founder, the Global Trade Research Initiative. Pankaj Khimji, advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said the country is willing to align its petrochemical and fertiliser exports with India’s needs. “India remains a major importer of the petrochemicals that Oman manufactures, and we can more than happily serve that requirement,” he said. The FTA is expected to benefit labour-intensive sectors including gems and jewellery, textiles, leather, footwear, marine products, engineering goods, processed food and pharmaceuticals. India has offered tariff liberalisation on 77.79% of tariff lines, covering 94.81% of imports from Oman by value, while retaining safeguards for sensitive sectors. “We have agreed with the Omani side that for investments made by Indian companies, Indian workers will be given preferential ability to serve, subject to local requirements,” Goyal said. is third with 319 marks. Right to be forgotten: Names to be removed after acquittal, says HC U D AYA N K I S H O R E @ New Delhi THE Delhi High Court has held the “right to be forgotten” to be an integral part of the fundamental right to privacy protected under the Constitution. In a society where digital records are virtually indelible, the ability to seek erasure ensures that informational selfdetermination remains effective, it added. The high court directed to ensure that only the names and p e r s o n a l i d e n t i f i e r s a re masked, not the substance of the judgment under question. Justice Sachin Datta said after a case ends up in an acquittal, discharge, quashing, or settlement, or is private in nature, the individuals may seek the removal or masking of personal information from online judicial records where continued accessibility causes disproportionate harm to their privacy, dignity and reputation. The judge said that search engines like Google cannot be “perpetually permitted” to show judicial records in namebased search for such cases. While hearing a batch of petitions, the judge directed authorities, search engine operat o r s a n d l e g a l d at ab a s e platforms to de-index and disable their “name-based search functionality” in respect of judgments, orders and news articles cited by the petitioners. “The right to be forgotten reflects the evolution of privacy in response to the permanence of online information. In a society where digital records are virtually indelible, the ability to seek erasure ensures that informational self-determination remains effective. It protects individuals from perpetual exposure to past events that may no longer bear relevance, while preserving their dignity and autonomy in society it said. ,” The judge said any claim for de-indexing, or masking, must be balanced against competing constitutional values, such as freedom of speech, freedom of press, open justice, and the public’s right to know. “The reasoning, findings, legal conclusions, case number, court details, etc., remain publicly accessible. The complete and unredacted version of the judgement is preserved in the court’s internal records. Masking applies only to the publicly accessible digital versions. The unredacted version remains accessible to courts, parties, advocates, and authorities,” the judge ordered in a judgment passed on May 29. pande, too, has a Kota footprint. The kind of pressure they have. We will post (this matter) after vacation,” Justice Narasimha said while declining urgent listing and hearing of the plea. Petitioner Singh and others, had sought a direction to shift the NEET-UG re-test from the existing pen-and-paper format to CBT mode, citing concerns over transparency and integrity. The court refused to pass any interim order directing the change in mode and posted the matter for hearing on July 27, after the summer vacation. The NEET-UG 2026 exam was originally conducted on May 3. However, the NTA cancelled it on May 12 amid allega- tions of a paper leak and other irregularities. Meanwhile, top officials from NTA told a parliamentary standing committee on Monday that the agency’s focus for now was to hold the June 21 NEET-UG re-test properly in pen-paper format.
