The Grade-I heritage complex was built between 1860 and 1866. The Municipal Corporation’s headquarters remained in the complex for a long time before being shifted in 2010 to the new Dr SP Mukherjee Civic Centre on Minto Road. The MoU was signed in the presence of CM Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat on Sunday . The project covers the town hall, press building and a park spread over around 12,180 square metres in the historic Chandni Chowk and Shahjahanabad areas, according to a statement. Under the MoU, its ownership will remain with the MCD, while the heritage structures will be conserved and developed for tourism and cultural activities, it said. The proposed Global Heritage Centre will include a museum and facilities for cultural and tourism activities, the statement said. Located near Chandni Chowk and Old Delhi Railway Station, the complex will provide domestic and international visitors a place to experience Delhi’s history , heritage and culture within a single complex. It further said that the tourism department has been tasked with conducting surveys, undertaking a structural assessment and preparing a detailed project report for the redevelopment. CM Gupta said the Town Hall is an important part of Delhi’s history and heritage, and the government is committed to preserving its historical and architectural identity. The matter now appears headed for a legal showdown as Tata Trusts, which owns 66.6% in Tata Sons, roped in noted Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi to represent it in the corporate dispute. According to reports, senior advocate Harish Salve is advising Tata Sons. In a detailed statement issued on Sunday, Tata Trusts said that under Tata Sons’ Articles of Association (AoA), the board meeting requires affirmative support from a majority of Trust-nominated directors to pass a resolution. But this condition was not met in the case of Chandrasekaran’s reappointment, rendering it void ab initio (legally void from the outset). In the crucial board meeting held last week, Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata voted against Chandrasekaran’s reappointment while Venu Srinivasan, the other Tata Trusts nominee, supported the resolution. “Whether the result of the vote was 4:1, or any other figure, is irrelevant. A condition is either met, or it is not. In this case the condition was not met,” the Trusts said. The Trusts questioned the argument that Noel Tata’s opposition created a deadlock that needed to be removed through a casting vote. “It is now being suggested that a refusal of support amounts to a deadlock which would paralyse the Company and that the Chairman of the meeting was therefore entitled to resolve the position by a casting vote. There was no paralysis and there was no deadlock. The Board put a question, and the AoA answered it in the negative,” it said. In its latest statement, the Trusts also pointed out that Tata Sons had defended the same AoA during the litigation surrounding the removal of former chairman Cyrus Mistry . FOUR people, including a company’s human resources manager, died and three others were injured after a truck crashed into a crane and an auto-rickshaw parked at the site in south Delhi’s Sarita Vihar early Sunday police said. , The deceased were working for the CCTV installation company and included two cousins. The accident took place at a Delhi Traffic Police CCTV installation site on the road in the area, and information regarding it was received at the Sarita Vihar police station around 3.20 am, they said. The truck driver fled the spot after the accident, they said. While the crane was being used by workers who were installing CCTV cameras as part of the traffic police’s surveillance infrastructure, an autorickshaw carrying some of the workers was parked nearby po, lice said. Following the collision, the dumper allegedly hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving several workers seriously injured, it added. The workers were carrying out CCTV installation work at the time of the accident. Two of them were on the crane and were engaged in installing cameras, while others were near the auto-rickshaw and on the road, it said. “A police team arrived at the accident spot and found that a mediumsize dumper truck coming from Noida had collided with a stationary crane and an auto-rickshaw,” police said. The impact was severe, and several workers sustained critical injuries, police said, adding that victims were rushed to hospital, where four of them were declared dead. The deceased were identified as Umesh, 23, Praveen, 35, Anoop, 26, all residents of Sangam Vihar, and Suraj, 34, a resident of Munirka, police said. Sahil Ravindra Wakode was found dead at the Powai campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on Friday evening, hours after he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone and ChatGPT during a mid-semester examination. Professor Suryanarayan Dulla and two other unnamed persons were booked on Sunday . Sahil’s father alleged that the professor was responsible for driving his son to take his own life. He alleged Sahil faced caste-based abuse, threats and harassment at the campus for three months before his death. A case of abetment of suicide and joint liability has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
