VC Yogesh Singh, however, said there was an attendance shortage for some students, which could have led to loss of a year for them. “Considering all aspects, I have instructed the Faculty of Law to continue classes for another two weeks. The exams will be held from July 18,” he said. Anju Vali Tikoo, head and dean of Faculty of Law, said, “The notice has been issued in accordance with the Vice Chancellor’s orders. New dates will be announced soon.” The exams were scheduled to start on July 4 and end on July 26. Parichay Yadav (24), a term-II LLB student, said, “It is inconvenient when the exam gets cancelled like this. But at this point, we do not know what happened or why they have been postponed,” he said. “Many students will have to cancel tickets they had booked for going home after the exams. Kerala HC says no criminal case against teacher if intention of beating is to guide E x p r e s s N e w s Se r v i c e @ Kochi The Kerala High Court has said a criminal case will not stand against a teacher for beating a student if the intention is to guide the individual towards academic improvement. Justice A Badharudeen issued the order in response to a petition filed by Jomi, an English teacher and the principal of St Joseph School, Thottuva, seeking to dismiss the case. The teacher was accused of beating a 13-year-old Class-VIII girl after she failed to secure fair marks on a test paper. The HC pointed out that despite the allegation of physical punishment, no serious injuries were sustained. “The teacher had no malafide intention while beating the student or his intention was to guide her by alerting her to the necessity of studying well and securing high marks in the subject,” stated the order. The police had filed a case against the teacher under Section 324 of the IPC and Section 82 of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act. The petitioner argued that the act of disciplining the student, The teacher had no malafide intention while beating the student or his intention was to guide her by alerting her to the necessity of studying well and securing high marks in the subject” — Kerala High Court done within the implied authority given by the parents and with genuine intent to guide the student, should not be considered an offence under Section 75 of JJ Act. The court emphasised that if teachers were penalised for taking simple disciplinary measures to maintain order in schools or educational institutions, it could jeopardise the discipline of the institution. The police have not been able to locate the Baba even after 48 hours of the tragedy The UP . Police’s Special Operation Groups (SOGs) have reportedly raided around eight hideouts of the Baba in Mainpuri, Gwalior, Kanpur and Hathras, but to no avail. The arrested are members of the organising committee involved in conducting the satsang, said the police. Aligarh range IG Shalabh Mathur said the arrested included four men and two women. They worked as ‘sevadars’ as members of the organising panel, said the officer. However, ‘Mukhya Sevadar’ Dev Prakash Madhukar, who has been named in the FIR as the main accused, is at large. However, Bhole Baba’s name does not appear in the FIR, though Mathur said if necessary authorities would ques, tion him. “The police are gathering information on Narayan Sakaar Hari’s background and teams have been sent to cities where he has criminal records,” he said.
