After days of search and investigation, the missing jigsaws seem to be slowly falling into place. In a dramatic turn of events, Meghalaya police on Monday arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi in Ghazipur of Uttar Pradesh as the prime accused for the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi. Sonam and her Indore-based husband were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya from where they disappeared on May 23 with no trace till June 2, when Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge beneath the Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills. Meghalaya Police said four accused – Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Anand Kurmi (23) – were arrested with help from police of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Some media reports suggested Sonam and Kushwaha were in a relationship. Addressing a press conference in Shillong, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, “When we connected the dots, it was actually Raj Kushwaha with Sonam. At this moment, we can’t say what exactly the murder motive was.” “If Sonam didn’t want to live with my son, she could have left him, but why did this happen to my son Raja? She should get capital punishment,” Raja’s mother said. Interestingly it was within an hour from , Raj Singh Kushwaha’s arrest in Indore that Sonam emerged (after mysteriously missing for a fortnight) a thousand kilometres away at a roadside eatery in UP’s Ghazipur at 1.30 am. A dhaba employee said Sonam asked for a phone to call her parents in Indore after which MP police were informed. Later, UP police were contacted and Sonam was arrested. All accused are off to Meghalaya. The ACB had summoned both Sisodia and former PWD minister Satyendar Jain for questioning. While Jain complied with the summons and appeared before the agency on Friday where he , was questioned for more than five hours, Sisodia was expected to do so on Monday . An ACB official said, “His lawyer informed us that Sisodia would not be able to join. He will be asked to appear again.” AAP sources said that Sisodia had a prior commitment, which prevented him from attending. His lawyer has formally informed ACB of this in writing, the sources said. In April, the ACB registered a case against AAP leaders, alleging corruption in the construction of classrooms at inflated costs. The agency claimed that a scam worth `2,000 crore had been uncovered in the construction of 12,748 classrooms during the AAP tenure. The tender cost for building a classroom was around `24.86 lakh, while such a room could have been constructed for `5 lakh, ACB said. The scorching spell, described as “appreciably above normal,” is likely to intensify over the next two days before any relief. Ayanagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the region at 45.3oC, followed closely by Ridge and Palam at 44.9oC and 44.3oC, respectively. The Safdarjung observatory Delhi’s base station, logged , 43.4oC, 3.4oC above the seasonal average. Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures also stayed elevated, ranging between 26 degrees and 31.5oC across parts of Delhi-NCR. No rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours. Winds remained active, with gusts up to 33 kmph reported at Palam, contributing to dusty conditions. The IMD has forecast the continuation of heatwave conditions at isolated places till June 11. Sources said that the CM and DyCM have been called to Delhi to brief Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and LoP Rahul Gandhi. At the meeting at 11 am, the CM and DyCM will explain the sequence of events on June 4 and measures taken by the government after the stampede. They will try to justify that it was not the government’s fault, but a failure on the part of the police and event organisers, sources said. They will explain that the state government suspended five senior officers, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. The CM also removed his political secretary and cases have been registered against representatives of RCB, DNA and KSCA. The government has formed a one-man commission of retired HC judge Justice Michael D’Cunha to probe the incident. The CM has blamed police for not keeping the government informed about the preparedness. Siddaramaiah has rubbished BJP and JDS demand for the resignation of the CM, DyCM and the home minister. Sources said the high command is concerned about the developments impacting the image of the party and government as a series of polls are likely over the next few months. Priest killed in tiger attack near Ranthambore Fort R A J E S H A S N A N I @ Jaipur A 60-year-old man was killed in a tiger attack near Rajasthan’s Ranthambore Fort on Monday morning. The victim, identified as Radheshyam Saini of Sherpur, was a priest at a Jain temple inside the fort. According to police, he was attacked when he stepped out of home early in the morning to relieve himself. It marks the third such case in the area in less than two months. A forest ranger, Devendra Chaudhary was killed in a , tiger attack on May 11, while a seven-year-old boy was mauled to death near Trinetra Ganesh temple on April 16. Locals held a protest against the forest department for its failure to curb big cat attacks.
